We have an in person talk Monday 12th May which is being given by Ian Robson, a leading light in astronomy talks. His talk will be entitled “The Changing Scene in Astronomy” and he has given us the following description of the talk, “Since the first use of the telescope in 1609 astronomers have made amazing discoveries about the Universe in which we live. Technological improvements have meant bigger and better telescopes and novel instruments spanning the entire electromagnetic spectrum and beyond. This talk gives an illustrated overview of this development and the discoveries that have led to our current knowledge of the Universe and concludes with the onset of ‘Big Data’ in modern astronomy and the changing scene facing astronomers today”.

As ever the doors will open at 7.00pm, tea and biccies at 7.15pm and the talk will start at 7.30pm. Our Commander of the Kitchen, Robert Rowley has a medical appointment which means that he will be unable to attend so we are looking for someone to arrive at 7.00pm and pop the kettle on and make the tea and coffee please.

I hope to see as many of you as possible on Monday evening.

Kind regards

Alan Gosling FRAS
